Living styles of people are changing day by day as a result of the rapid growth in science and technology today. These changes cause people to move less and also negatively affect their eating habits . When some negative conditions gather such as changes in diet and lack of movement, risk of obesity ( being overweight) increases. The studies done so far show that being overweight and obese is gradually increasing in our country as well as in the world. Obesity especially affects our children and teenagers. According to the data of WHO ( World Health Organization) being overweight and obesity are considered a major disease which can be prevented. It causes more than one million people to die every year.
Struggling with obesity means struggling with many diseases. Obesity causes; cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, some kinds of cancer, respiratory system diseases, musculoskeletal diseases and many of these sorts of diseases. It also affects life quality and life time negatively. That’s why, tackling obesity is very important. School is where children grow rapidly and learn proper behaviours. The habits and behaviours which children develop during the time at school affect their life quality for a lifetime. It is necessary to give importance to a healthy diet if we want our children to be successful, having a high quality education, be stronger and healthier in the future. The main factor in struggling with obesity is your support. There will be enlightening, cooperative and coordination meetings and the activities will be arranged at school.
In light of these truths, Emine Örnek College have included the duty of getting the students to adopt healthy and well balanced eating habits to its mission and in the period of 2010-2011 Education term. “Emine Örnek Schools Healthy Diet and Active Life Project” is being carried out.
